Spain defeated Brazil in the first match of the tennis season

The second United Cup of tennis, or United Cup, began on Friday, which also opens the WTA and ATP tennis season. In the first match of the tournament, the Spanish team defeated Brazil 2:1.

A total of 18 teams will participate in the mixed team tournament in Perth and Sydney, Australia, divided into six groups. The groups compete against each other, after which the eight finalists will be determined. The group stage will last until January 3, while the final will be played on January 7 in Sydney. The US team will defend their title

In the opening match of this year’s tournament, Group A teams Spain and Brazil faced each other and the Europeans managed to secure a two-to-one victory.

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (ATP 26) got the Spaniards off to a winning start by beating Thiago Seyboth Wild (ATP 79) 6-4, 6-0 in the opening match. However, Beatriz Haddad Maia (WTA 11th) evened the score by winning 7-6 (1), 6-2 against Sara Sorribes Tormo (WTA 48th).

The winner of the opening match thus turned out to be in the doubles, where Davidovich Fokina and Sorribes Tormo, who had already warmed up, entered the court for the Spaniards. Haddad Maia played for Brazil, but Wild was replaced by 40-year-old doubles expert Marcelo Melo. The Spaniards won 6:4, 7:5 and defeated Brazil 2:1.

Great Britain and hosts Australia will also face each other on Friday.
