Truck stuck under the viaduct, driver trapped
EINDHOVEN – Bizarre accident on Thursday afternoon in front of the entrance to the DAF in Eindhoven.
A truck driver was stuck under an overpass. The truck’s cab crashed into the roof of the viaduct, trapping the driver. The rear part of the truck is then dug into the road surface.
The firefighters were present en masse and an air ambulance also landed at the adjacent DAF plant. The DAF firefighters (specialised in trucks) also intervened to help.
The help of a forklift from the factory was also requested. This was because the metal bridges that firefighters normally use to work at the height of a truck’s cab were too low.
Eventually, firefighters managed to free the driver after hard work, which required opening a door of the truck. The driver was injured, but miraculously managed to get out of the cockpit via a ladder. He was taken to hospital by ambulance.
The road under the viaduct in front of the main entrance to the DAF will remain closed for some time.
