Odermatt took his fourth stage win in Bormio, Schwarz out of season | Alpine skiing

Overall Alpine Skiing World Cup leader Marco Odermatt scored another stage victory Friday when he finished first in the super giant slalom in Bormio, Italy.

Odermatt, who became the overall leader of the MK Alpine skiing series on Thursday after a rapid descent in Bormio, finished on Friday with a time of 1:27.72, 0.98 seconds faster than Raphael Haaser, who finished second. Also in the top three was Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, 1.31 seconds behind the winner.

“It was another perfect giant slalom. I had a good plan in mind, I skied smart where I had to and pushed where I wanted. It worked perfectly,” Odermatt said after the race. “When things go like this, I’m hard to beat.”

It was Odermatti’s fourth stage win this MK season, he has also finished third twice and finished second in Thursday’s rapid downhill.

As on Thursday’s race day, Friday’s racing conditions were also difficult. Both Dominik Paris, Cyprien Sarrazin and Austrian Vincent Kriechmayr, winner of the first giant slalom of the season, had problems with the slippery track, which ultimately earned him fourth place.

The Austrian Ski Federation announced on Thursday evening that Austrian Marco Schwarz, who fell during a rapid descent, damaged the anterior cruciate ligament and the medial meniscus of his right knee. Unfortunately the season of the Austrian, who was leading the general classification before the Bormio stage, ended prematurely with this injury.

After ten races, Odermatt has accumulated 636 points and is in first place in the overall standings, ahead of Schwarz (464 points) by almost 200 points. In third place is Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, who collected 240 points.

Shiffrin won the women’s MK stage for the second day in a row

Meanwhile, in the MK women’s alpine skiing stage in Lienz, Austria, American Mikaela Shiffrin earned her second consecutive stage win by winning Friday’s slalom in addition to Thursday’s giant slalom.

Shiffrin was fastest on both passes, clocking a time of 52.81 on the first attempt and 55.94 on the second. With a total time of 1:48.75 she beat Germany’s Lena Dürr (+2.34) and Switzerland’s Michelle Gisin (+2.45).

Five-time overall champion MK Shiffrin has accumulated 900 points this season, 263 ahead of second-placed Italian Federica Brignone (637 points). The Slovakian guitarist Petra Vlhova can also be included in the top three, who placed fifth on Friday, with 572 points.
