Youth basketball players from Estonia, Latvia, Finland and Sweden will participate in the 19th tournament. The U18 youth team won the halftime break against the Swedes with a score of 34:22, and were still leading 49:36 midway through the third quarter. But then the hosts were left empty-handed for a long time and, after the opponents’ 18:0 intermediate score, seven minutes from the end of regulation time the white shirts found themselves 49:54 behind.

However, the end of the match still belonged to Martin Rausberg’s defenses, who, after a powerful final spurt, were ahead in the match 76:62. Martin Alles, defender of the Ginnasio Sportivo Spordiklubi Nord/Audentes, scored 25 points as the best of the winners, while the sniper, who intervened from the turn, made five shots from distance and five interceptions.

Kaur-Kennerth Tomann, a 205 centimeter long winger belonging to the youth sector of the Italian club Stella Azzurra, supported him with 16 points, six rebounds and seven assists. As the third member of the national team, Hendrik Metsa, defender of the German team Jena Science City, reached double-digit scoring with 14 points.

The Under 16s also started with a win

The Estonian U16 team led by Brett Nõmme got off to a great start to the home tournament, winning the first half against Sweden with 47:32 and the entire match with a shutout of 80:55. As Estonia’s best player, 203-centimeter student Roman Avdejev of the Reinar Hallik Basketball School scored 18 points, 12 rebounds (five of them under the opponent’s basket) and three blocks. Rae Kossu’s adoptee Rasmus Vuks also had a versatile performance, with a dozen points, seven rebounds, six assists and two interceptions.

In the other matches of the day, our neighbors to the north were successful, as their U16 men’s team beat Latvia 81:74, and at U18 level the Finns lost to the Latvians with 78:57.

The Estonian girls remained winless in two matches against Sweden, as the Under 18s lost to their peers in Sweden 45:57 and the Under 16s 67:91.
