The new year begins in Tartu with a great art week: Sirp

10.-14. The Tartu Kunstinäda series of art events will begin in Tartu’s galleries and museums in January for the first time. During the week, various art itineraries, meetings with artists and several new exhibitions will be inaugurated.

“Tartu Art Week creates all these opportunities to get to know new art forms, artists and other art visitors every month and thus discover Tartu. In addition to the large museums, we also have several small but good galleries here, which are happy to welcome new people to visit. I think the Art Week program is dense and diverse enough that everyone will find something to their liking,” said Stella Mõttus, program manager of the Kogo gallery.

Tartu Art Week will take place the second week of every month. All Art Week events are free or with a museum ticket. The Art Week is accompanied by a new Tartu Art Map, available in every art institution in Tartu.

“We have collaborated with all the art institutions in Tartu and found that although Tartu is full of various galleries and museums, the information about our program is very fragmented for the people of the city. From now on we will have an umbrella organization that connects all the art institutions of Tartu, thanks to which it will be much easier for everyone to follow the exhibition program and the public,” explained Mõttus.

The January Art Week program includes the Jakobi gallery, Tartu Kunstimaja, the Kogo gallery and the HAKI gallery with guided tours in Estonian and English, Tartmus with a lecture by David Vseviov and the graphic exhibition of Marilyn Piirsalu opened in the R gallery , an exhibition of two sculpture students and one of former students in the Pallas gallery, Heiki Lei’s photography exhibition in the Promenade division, Laura Kaasik’s textile exhibition at the maja gallery in Tampere and the new exhibition of TYPA artist-in-residence Liis Ring in Aparaaditehas balcony gallery with live performance by Underground Forest.
