Producer and musician Amp Fiddler has died | Music

Musician and producer Joseph Fiddler, better known by his stage name Amp Fiddler, has died at the age of 65.

Born in Detroit, Joseph Fiddler played piano as a child and went on to study at Oakland and Wayne State universities, as well as Detroit jazz pianist Harold McKinney, Pitchfork reported. In the early 1980s he sang with the vocal group Enchantment and in 1984 he replaced Bernie Worrell as keyboard player for Parliament-Funkadelic. He toured and recorded with George Clinton and his band for several years, living briefly with the band in Los Angeles. He also contributed to Prince’s 1990 song “We Can Funk.”

In his solo debut “With Respcet” he released the name Mr. Fiddler alt in 1991, the album was completed in collaboration with his brother Thomas Fiddler. Throughout his career he has released nine solo albums, the latest of which “Basementality” was released in 2021. He has also collaborated with Moodymann, Jamiroquai and Theo Parrish throughout his career, and is also considered a mentor to J Dilla .
