READ NEXT: Milan’s comeback sends PSG ahead, Barcelona earns another shock defeat (goal from Pepel!) – Soccernet.ee

On the last day of the Champions League group stage, two tickets for the Champions League round of 16 were drawn. They took PSG and Porto. While the former had to thank Milan, which came out of a losing position, the latter gave a place on the goal line to Shakhtar Donetsk.

The last round of the subgroups with the current format ended in a rather emotional way, as the so-called group of death changed places in the rankings for the entire 90 minutes and even in the last minutes last minute eliminations were in the air. Fans were able to closely follow both the Newcastle-Milan and Dortmund-PSG duels in the north-east of England.

More goals were seen in the first match, where the first half ended in a 1-0 victory for Newcastle. The blow was quite violent: British striker Joelinton bounced the ball into the air with the first touch and launched a powerful rocket into the goal. The Saudi Arabian-owned club also looked quite dangerous in the second half, but suddenly Christian Pulisic scored an equalizer instead. Meanwhile, Mike Maignan made a superb save and then Milan got their second on the counterattack. The English chased as much as they could the equalizer that leads to at least the Europa League, but like their Manchester United colleague, they too had to finish the subgroup in last place.

In the second duel the goals remained in contact in the first half, but it cannot be said that there were no opportunities. Marco Reus was beaten several times, but the PSG men had the best chances: once Kylian Mbappe managed to beat the opposing goalkeeper, but Niklas Süle sent the ball into the goal after a tackle. Moments later, Bradley Barcola and Randal Kolo Muan also managed to test the accuracy, but the former hit the post and the latter rolled the ball just past the post.

At the start of the second half, however, PSG fans had to start biting their nails: Dortmund managed to get the ball after Achraf Hakim’s misplaced passes and sent it into the goal through Karim Adeyemi’s leg. Since Newcastle were leading at the same time, PSG was relegated to the Europa League. However, the defeat did not last long, as just five minutes later 17-year-old Warren Zaire-Emery confidently knocked the ball past all competitors.

As the match progressed, the pace of the game visibly decreased, once Mbappe pushed the ball into the goal, but did so from offside. There were no more dangerous opportunities, because neither of them wanted to take too many risks: Dortmund would have dropped to second place, while PSG would instead have dropped to third. Thus, the duel ended in a draw, so the French could be happy that they got through to the round, but there they will meet any of the following seven opponents: Bayern Munich, London Arsenal, Real Madrid, Real Sociedad, Atletico Madrid, Manchester City and Barcelona.

While five goals were scored in two matches in the group of death, fans of subgroup H saw a whopping 13 (!) goals. Particularly intense was the eight-goal battle between Porto and Shakhtar for the last place in the Champions League. The hosts, the Portuguese, immediately took the lead, but at the end of the half the Ukrainians managed to recover. The blow was largely due to a misunderstanding on the part of Porto’s defenders: the referee showed that the Shakhtar striker was offside, but since the referee did not stop the match, the Ukrainians continued to play . Porto’s men didn’t do it too eagerly, perhaps Shakhtar had a chance.

In the end, however, the Portuguese got hurt and scored four more goals against his opponents. The guests also received two letters, but they were of little use. Legend Pepe, who turns 41 in February, also contributed a shot!

At the same time, Porto rose to the same level as the Catalan giant Barcelona, who lost 0:1 away already in the second minute. However, their opponent was the not so formidable Royal Antwerp, who had not recorded a single point before today. Although Ferran Torres managed to recover at the end of the half, at the start of the second the Spaniards made a mistake in defense and Vincent Janssen, who was at Tottenham a few years ago, put them back in front.

But the drama didn’t even end there! In the first minute of extra time, 17-year-old Marc Guiu equalized again, and the Barcelona fans sitting in front of the TV could go into the other room to celebrate with great joy, but when they returned, the score was 3 :2 … That is say, the Belgians were again repelled in the next attack, thanks to which they also recorded a historic victory. However, Barcelona did not have a big mess, because Porto was beaten in the matches between them, so they were still in first place in the table.

In subgroup E the least exciting happened, but some men were able to experience joy there too. For example, although Glasgow Celtic’s European season wasn’t the best, today they achieved 90+1. the first victory of the group stage after a one-minute shootout. However, this changed nothing in terms of the league table, as Feyenoord had already secured the Europa League.

The duel for first place in the group wasn’t too heated either, as Antoine Griezmann scored a goal in the sixth minute and, to be honest, Lazio didn’t have many good opportunities. At the start of the second half Samuel Lino scores another beautiful goal and first place in the standings is assured.

That was the end of the subgroup round, perhaps it was decided who will continue the season and where. The winners of the subgroup, namely Bayern Munich, London Arsenal, Real Madrid, Real Sociedad, Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Manchester City and Barcelona, are included in the round of 16 of the Champions League. Their opponent will be one of the eight runners-up: Copenhagen, PSV, Napoli, Inter, Roma Lazio, PSG, RB Leipzig and Porto.

Galatasaray, Lens, Braga, Benfica, Feyenoord, Milan, Young Boys and Shakhtar will move to the Europa League, while Manchester United, Sevilla, Berlin Union, RB Salzburg, Celtic, Newcastle, Crvena zvezda and Royal Antwerp will focus in the future. the national championship. The pairings for the next round will be announced during the draw which will take place next Monday.
