Report: The super rich get richer and the poor stay poorer | foreign country

According to a report by the international non-profit organization Oxfam, since 2020 the wealth of the five richest people in the world has more than doubled, while the poorest part of the population (five billion people) has remained even poorer.

The week-long World Economic Forum will begin again on Monday in the Swiss ski resort of Davos. Billionaires and politicians are among the guests. That’s why Oxfam has released a new report showing that the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer.

The report highlights that the gap between rich and poor will continue to widen, with a high probability that the world will have its first trillionaire within the next ten years.

Oxfam points out that wealth inequality began to increase dramatically after the pandemic. Billionaires’ wealth has grown three times faster than the rate of inflation.

According to data from the research firm Wealth The world’s top offenders are Elon Musk, Bernard Arnault, Jeff Bezos, Larry Ellison and Mark Zuckerberg. Over the same period, the total wealth of 4.77 billion people fell by 0.2%, The Guardian reported.

The report also highlights that poorer people are forced to work more and more due to lack of money. However, profits of companies owned by the super rich are rising. The report calls for a wealth tax to restore the balance between workers and owners of large companies.
