Revenge awaits: Palace failed to exploit Everton’s minority – Soccernet.ee

Crystal Palace and Everton failed to decide the winner of the FA Cup match between them, so a rematch awaits them.

The clash between these two teams marked the start of the third round of the FA Cup, when all 20 Premier League and 24 Championship teams begin the competition. The duels between Premier League clubs can be seen again on Friday between Tottenham Hotspur and Burnley and on Sunday between Arsenal and Liverpool.

Last year, both Palace and Everton’s cup journeys ended in the third round, when the London club lost 1:2 to Southampton and Liverpool lost 1:3 to Manchester United.

Neither team had managed to find the back of the net at the end of an extremely even first half between Roy Hodgson and Sean Dyche’s sides. The second three-quarters of an hour were very similar to the first, until Everton were down to ten men in the 79th minute. Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who was sliding to win the ball back from Nathaniel Clyne, hit his opponent’s shin with a high foot, which did not go unnoticed by referee Chris Kavanagh with the help of VAR.

Calvert-Lewin will be unable to help Everton against Aston Villa in the Premier League on January 14, as the red card he earned in the cup carries over to the Premier League.

In the 84th minute, ten-man Everton had a brilliant chance to take the lead when Arnaut Danjuma sent a low cross from the right flank to the penalty spot, where James Garner managed to beat it, but the 22-year-old Englishman fired over Dean Henderson’s crossbar.

Everton’s woes took a new turn six minutes later when injured winger Dwight McNeil was carried off the pitch on a stretcher. However, Hodgson’s men failed to capitalize on their individual advantage, so the runners-up will be determined by a replay at Everton.
