Among others, Elisa’s customer service number and numerous phone numbers of other unsuspecting people were used for fraud. According to the expert, it is difficult to get your hands on such schemes, but you can still do something to protect yourself.
“While some time ago it was normal to receive fraudulent calls from foreign numbers, recently we have been hearing more and more often about situations in which calls with bad intentions are received from local telephone numbers. Often also from numbers belonging to ordinary Estonian people or companies. Naturally the companies and people know nothing about it, and it can even be difficult for the recipient of the call to recognize at first glance that the caller is actually a criminal,” said Mai Kraft, head of cybersecurity at Elisa.
