SPARKLING DRINK OF THE WEEK ⟩ Crémant is a growing trend

Who likes Estonian sparkling wine on New Year’s Eve, who especially appreciates champagne. One likes Italian Prosecco, the second Spanish Cava, the third German Sekt. “Try Crémant for a change, it’s a growing trend,” urges the president of the Estonian Association of Sommeliers and Sommeliers Kristjan Markii.

Even though Crémant is produced in different countries and styles, as well as the grape varieties and the handwriting of the winemakers are different, the sparkling wine offers in most cases a reasonable price-performance ratio. “The success is confirmed by the increase in sales of this sparkling wine,” says the sommelier and adds that a good Crémant can be even better than a mediocre champagne.

The sommelier notes that Crémant’s great appeal lies in its flexibility and lack of pretension. Thanks to this, sparkling wine pairs well with a large number of lighter classic holiday dishes without overshadowing them. Even with a cold table, where there are, for example, festive snacks of bread with salmon sauce and fish roe. Even if wine professionals wouldn’t do it this way, in the home context you can make a concession and perhaps have one of your favorite Crémants as a companion to snacks, fish and lighter meats.
