SPORTS REPORT IN UKRAINE | Athletes’ united front puts pressure on France, football legend mistakenly considered Putin a human being

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced late last year that it would allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in this year’s Olympic Games in Paris.

Russians and Belarusians would participate in the Olympics as neutral athletes, meaning they could not use their country’s symbols and the national anthem would not be played in their honor. Only individual athletes can qualify for the Olympics, teams from aggressor countries are not eligible for the Olympics.

However, according to Ukrainians, competing under a neutral flag is not enough punishment for athletes from aggressor countries. “Not a single athlete from these countries has spoken out publicly against the murders and genocide of the Ukrainian people. At the moment, 11 athletes are allowed to participate in the Paris Olympics as neutrals, but according to the IOC guidelines, they are not neutrals at all, but instead support the war”, we read in the appeal.
