Tänak has a busy December ahead of him

The new season begins with the Monte Carlo stage, which will take place from the 25th to the 28th until January, but according to the Estonian, much more work will need to be done before that.

“We have quite a busy period ahead of us, because we have a lot of work to do in December. I’ve been in this car before, so I should know a thing or two about it. But I definitely need to freshen up and prepare for next year as well,” said Tänaku to the Autosport.com portal.

As you know, the Estonian rally ace who raced this season in the M-Sport team has been a Hyundai driver for the last three years. He has not won the title this time, last year he finished second overall behind Toyota’s Kalle Rovanperä.

Under the guidance of new team leader Cyril Abiteboul, Tänak once again aims to become world champion. “Expectations are no lower than before and Cyril, as a strong leader, also wants to win, so we definitely have to get the corresponding results.”

Tänak, who became world champion with Toyota in 2019, was far from the title this year. His M-Sport had continuous technical problems and in the end he had to settle for fourth place. “For sure the expectations were much higher. I think the start of the year wasn’t bad, but from there we couldn’t improve and we started to go backwards. From mid-season the emotions weren’t the best,” he said Tänak.

He added: “The disappointment is definitely mutual. But I have to find something positive for myself this year [kaks rallivõitu] and take it with you.”
