Vampire Diaries star Ian Somerhalder attended a special screening of the documentary Common Ground in Los Angeles last week, where the star spoke on the red carpet with E! and shared his decision to quit acting.
“I loved what I did for a long time,” Somerhalder commented on acting. “I don’t miss it,” he said, adding that he really enjoyed making movies, but that time was just over.
Now the former actor enjoys staying away from the limelight and working behind the camera. Somerhalder’s co-director produced the documentary Common Ground with his wife, Nikki Reed. The film tells the story of how it might be possible to reverse the effects of climate change and stars A-list actors such as Donald Glover and Jason Momoa.
Somerhalder’s last acting role was in the 2019 TV series V Wars. Together with her husband Reed they raise two children: daughter Bodhi (6 years old) and a 6-month-old son, whose name is still unknown to the public. The family lives on a farm just outside of Los Angeles. “We’re country people,” Somerhalder said in an earlier interview. “I live in cowboy boots.”
