The average museum card holder visited the museum eight times during the year | museums

The museum mapping project began in April, with over a hundred museums taking part. To date, 10,000 people have already purchased the museum card and have made more than 50,000 visits to museums. The most active card user visited the museum more than 170 times.

In eight months more and more visitors have come to the museum with the card. “If we looked at examples from other countries based on museum maps, the start of the Estonian museum map was the fastest,” said Kert Kask, project manager of the museum map.

“This certainly shows that Estonia has a very strong museum culture. We can definitely see that more visitors came to the museums. Those who activated the card visited us on average about eight times, but there are also those who bought the card long been back and just started visiting,” he said.

Lennusadama is the most visited with a museum card, in second place is the Kumu Art Museum, in third place is the Estonian Open Air Museum and in fourth place is the Proto Discovery Factory.

Girli Nurk, sales and marketing manager at the Proto Discovery factory, says the museum card helps attract repeat visitors to the house. “You buy a year-round pass, and certainly a lot of museums change their exhibits. That’s the possibility that the visitor ends up in the same building multiple times a year, so it’s not a one-time event,” Nurk said.

One of the most popular exhibitions in December among museum card holders was the Langebraun porcelain exhibition in the Suurgild building,

“One factor is definitely the weather or whether it’s holiday time, for example July was the busiest time to visit the museum card. The exhibitions definitely have a lot of influence. For example, the Konrad Mägi exhibition at the ERM increased significantly increased the number of visitors with the museum card and this probably also increased the number of visits to the ERM”, offered Kert Kask.

Also popular among visitors with museum cards were the mushroom exhibition at the Natural History Museum, the Tallinn Jewelery Factory exhibition at the Estonian Museum of Applied Arts and Design and the exhibition on embassy interiors at the Estonian Architecture Museum .
