The city plans to lease the former Social Security office building

Anu Juurma-Saks, head of the public relations department of the city of Pärnu, said that it is planned to organize a tender to find a user for the Lai 14 building. The red brick house in the city center is being initially rented for two years.

Juurma-Saks explained that the dormitory project was not realized, because the prepared price calculation showed that the renovation of the house, including furnishings, would cost just over 1,000 euros per square meter. However, the State has granted support of up to 400 euros per square meter. “Therefore it would not have been reasonable to resort to this support in the case of Lai 14, and it was necessary to find a new solution,” she noted. Adding that the city requested and received support for another measure to repair housing for war refugees in Ukraine. With this help, 11 apartments owned by the municipality were renovated.
