The competitors tremble. Djokovic: I’m sure Nadal’s goal is to win a Slam

Nadal, who battled injuries throughout the 2023 calendar year, last took to the court in January, when he acknowledged the superiority of American Mackenzie McDonald in the opening round of the Australian Open. The 22-time Grand Slam champion will end his long competitive break at the ATP tournament in Brisbane starting this weekend.

Djokovic, who won three Grand Slam titles last year, is confident the sport’s legend will return to the circuit with the aim of winning titles before the Spaniard’s return.

“I always want Nadal to play his best,” admitted the 36-year-old Djokovic. “He’s not the type of player who comes back on tour just to be there. He wants to win titles and be the best. That’s why he is what he is: a legend of the sport. I’m sure his training and preparation are aimed at winning a Grand Slam tournament.”

World number two Carlos Alcaraz, who played an exhibition match against Djokovic in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Wednesday, also believes Nadal will return to top form.

“I’ve seen videos of his training. He’s 100% ready,” admitted Alcaraz, who triumphed at Wimbledon this year. “The players who trained with him also said that he will return to a good level. This year too he is ready for great things.”
