According to several football portals, the Italian Premier League is planning to take tough measures against teams planning to join the Super League. The teams participating in the new tournament would not obtain the Serie A license, meaning the football championship would have to be played elsewhere.
It is known that the leaders of the Super League recently achieved an important victory in court when it was announced that FIFA and UEFA have no right to punish teams that adhere to the new system. Then the new Super League format was announced, which would include 64 teams spread across three different divisions. However, at first glance, there was not a large turnout of participants, as many top clubs confirmed that they will not take part in such a project.
Calcio e Finanza, which writes about the economics of Italian football, announced that in Italy, for example, there are plans to make joining the Super League particularly difficult. Clubs will be required to confirm when registering for the 2024-25 Serie A season that they do not wish to participate in any competition organized by a private company that has not been approved by FIFA, UEFA or the FIGC. If the clubs do not accept this clause, they will not be issued a license, or they will not receive a ticket for Serie A.
The Italians Juventus Turin, Milan and Inter joined the original Super League project. While the teams from the fashion capital decided to immediately cancel their membership plan, Juventus did not. Following the announcement of the new format, Inter, Roma and Atalanta all announced on social media that they will remain loyal to UEFA. Aurelio de Laurentiis, owner of reigning champion Napoli, spoke about joining the Super League and recently declared to Corriero dello Sport that, although the initial format of the new tournament was not very reasonable, the version published this year has more potential.
