The magic and pain of professional basketball. Carlos Jürgens: I called my mother so that she wouldn’t be surprised if I came home sooner or later

Even though the 25-year-old Jürgens didn’t believe he would ever play in Lithuania, he decided to accept the offer from Kėdainiai Nevėžis in the summer. In just a few months he has gained many experiences, the most positive of which arrived on Monday. Jürgens set a personal scoring record with 22 points and helped Nevėžis beat Gargždai at home.

Given that it was only Nevėžis’ second victory of the season in the Lithuanian Premier League and they are second to last in the table, the mood of Jürgens and the whole team is not yet calm, but the first rays are starting to show.

Jürgens characterized Nevėžis’ game as American mountains. “Sometimes there are signs that things are improving, but then there is chaos on the pitch again. One of the reasons is that we constantly change players. Often you are not satisfied with someone and look for exchanges. The team chemistry doesn’t have started to work. However in the last two or three games there have been more positive things.”

The constant threat of being fired can wear players down. Even though, as far as Jürgens knows, his house was not attacked, uncertain thoughts still creep into his head.
