The Norwegian government has issued 62 oil and gas extraction permits | foreign country

The Norwegian Ministry of Energy announced on Tuesday that it has issued 62 permits for oil and gas exploration and oil and gas extraction in offshore areas.

A total of 24 companies were offered permits. 29 areas where permits for oil and gas production have been issued are located in the North Sea, 25 in the Norwegian Sea and eight in the Barents Sea, Bloomberg writes.

The licensing process takes place once a year and offers companies the opportunity to extract gas and oil offshore, where most of Norway’s fossil fuel deposits are located.

Norway emerged as the largest natural gas supplier to Europe after Russia staged a full-scale invasion of Ukraine and decided to cut off gas supplies to many European Union countries in 2022.

“It is encouraging to see such great interest in the future [nafta- ja gaasimaardlate] against the use,” said Norwegian Energy Minister Terje Aasland.

“This is important from both an employment and value creation perspective. It also secures Norway’s role as a stable European energy supplier,” the minister added.

In total, Equinor has received 39 licenses, AKEP BP 27, Ver Energi 16, Wintershall 13 and Upstream Norway 10. The Norwegian state owns the controlling stake in Equinor shares.
