According to preliminary data from the population register, the number of Estonian residents has increased since January 1; Among counties, the number of residents increased most in Harju County and Tartu County, and to some extent in Rapla County. In other municipalities the number of inhabitants has decreased.
According to data recorded in the population register, 1,373,101 people lived in Estonia as of January 1, which is 4,184 more than at the beginning of 2023. The number of inhabitants of Harju County increased by 6,239 people and the number of inhabitants of Tartum County of 2,025. Raplamaa has added 10 residents in one year, while the number of residents in Hiiumaa has remained at the same level as a year ago, ERR reports.
The population of Ida-Virumaa decreased the most, by 1413 people, of which 731 were the population of Narva. The number of inhabitants of Lääne-Virumaa decreased by 464 people, while the number of inhabitants of Valgamaa decreased by 369 people.
