Digigenius wrote yesterday that, according to the decision of the prosecutor Vahur Verte, the State will soon pay 3,000 euros to Artur Boiko, known as a hacker of document photos. This is because the Police and Border Protection (PPA) did not return to him the external hard drive used as evidence along with the stolen photos and other data.
Ago Ambur, head of the PPA’s cybercrime office, explained that the hacker had placed the photos in different folders on the hard drive and a lot of different data was also located there. In total, according to Ambur, there were more than five million files in 300,000 directories. Because of this, PPA feared that the hacker had hidden the photos somewhere in directories or other files that PPA was unable to access.
Manually checking the files would have taken a long time
According to the head of the cybercrime office, from the beginning of the investigation, the goal of the police was to ensure that the photos of the documents were not disseminated and to destroy them from Artur Boiko’s devices, because returning the photos was out of the question.
