The state announced a bond issue. The state budget deficit is repaired with loan money

“It is expected that the state budget will have a deficit in 2024 and the state will take a loan to finance it. The bonds to be issued will cover about half of this year’s financing needs and, according to preliminary information, investor interest in the Estonian bonds is still high,” explained Sven Kirsipuu, vice-chancellor of the Ministry of Finance.

The last time Estonia issued long-term bonds was in June 2023. Since 2020, two long-term bonds have been issued with a total volume of three billion euros.

The bond issue is organized by Barclays, Citigroup and Nordea. The issue will take place in the next few days, if the market situation allows it. The volume and interest rate of the bonds will be determined at the time of issuance and depend on both market interest rates and investor demand.
