The Tartu ensemble released a single about the capital of culture and southern Estonia

The song revolves around Emajõgi and how our personal banks are filled with the water of his river, said the song’s author, Kaisa Kuslapuu. “One’s bank is half empty, the other is half full, but the experience of both is valid. What happens in our living environment, also happens in us and, in the year of the capital of culture, let’s keep with both hands the southern Estonian fluidum. This song is my experience in Tartu and a love letter to my hometown, like some of Lonitseera’s early songs, only Kukerpillide influences are coming through,” said l author of the song. In addition to Lonitseera, banjo player Karl Laanekask also participates in the song.

This year a lot of interesting things happen in Tartu and southern Estonia, but everyone has the same time: 24 hours. “Now all Estonians will be able to use their curiosity and initiative to learn about the program of events in the cultural capital, because good memories and new friends do not happen alone,” Kuslapuu added.

The musical piece by Loniceera talks about the capital of culture with its characteristic humor and playfulness. The band’s musical style has been characterized as dramatic “Indian pop”, subtle humor with good bass, or “fairly sing-song music”. Therefore, their style fits well with Tartu 2024’s dramatic guiding principle and “relatively engaging programme”.

Lonitseera’s debut album «Tapeet» (2022) was awarded the title of songwriting album of the year at the Estonian Music Awards in 2023, and their «Loni joursudd» is also nominated at the music awards in 2024 .

The single «Art to see» will be played publicly for the first time in the performance of Lonitseera and Karl Laanekas at the opening ceremony of the year of the title of the European Capital of Culture «Everything is together!» On the banks of the Emajõgi on Friday 26 January at 7pm.

The song is already available on Spotify.
