TO WATCH ⟩ The City Council has evaluated a 25 million loan, appointed an honorary citizen and developed a new bill to change parking regulations

After leaving the post of theater director, Esna ran an antique shop, where history buffs can always get good advice and help. She still operated in the basement. Initially she Esna mounted in the basement of Pikk 5 in Pärnus, then she moved to the basement of a town house, and last year the 89-year-old man can be found among the piles of books in the basement of the Akadeemia. 1 on the edge of the Central Square.

Esna was a prolific co-author of Pärnu Postimehe and over the decades wrote hundreds of articles mainly on local history.

Esna has already made a name for himself: he was awarded the coat of arms of Pärnu (2004) and the coat of arms of Pärnumaa (2014), and the president awarded him the Order of Valgetähe V class.

The title of honorary citizen is the highest recognition of the city of Pärnu. This title is awarded to an individual as a tribute to special services rendered to the city. Admiral Konstantin Possiet (1886), professor Friedrich Fromhold Martens (1901), head of state Konstantin Päts (1934), conductor Neeme Järvi (2007), composer and music historian Valter Ojakäär (2008) , the rower Jüri Jaanson (2009) and the pianist and music teacher Arbo Valdma (2017).

The Municipality has decided to award the city coat of arms to Jüri Kase, Uudo Laane, Rein Veidemann and Jüri Vlassov, whose years of activity have positively influenced the development and image of Pärnu.

The parking regulations were discussed again in the council chamber. The new bill was presented by Andrei Korobeinik, a member of the Center Party. He did not get a majority of votes at the meeting of the economic commission of the Council, but since six members of the commission voted in favor of the new project, it was decided to send it for discussion in the assembly hall of the Council.

Korobeinik advised not to vote in favor of the project when it was presented and, at the time of the vote, did not support the presented project. Since the bill did not receive sufficient support, it was not sent to second reading.

On the agenda were the interrogations of the opposition representatives to the two deputy mayors, but they could not be reached, because the council’s six-hour working day ended early and there was no will to hold the session until the the agenda had not been exhausted in the boardroom. Deputy mayors Irina Talviste and Ene Täht had to answer questions. Andrei Korobeinik asked Talviste a question about the Mai ice rink, Robert Kiviselg, president of the faction of the Estonian Conservative People’s Party, asks Tähet for explanations on the strike of school workers.
