VIDEO & IMAGE GALLERY ⟩ The Narva Night Run, the size of a winter street carnival, brought together over 800 participants

The event, which took place in light snow, seven degrees of frost and slippery roads, was reminiscent of a winter carnival. Many participants showed up at the start in colorful costumes. Fire eaters, drummers, dancers, disc jockeys and cheerleaders cheered the participants along the route.

At the end, the participants were welcomed by Santa Claus, with whom the participants were able to pet him.

The main organizer of the race, Marko Torm, said that in such an event one does not chase records, but above all enjoys the atmosphere: for this reason hundreds of people from different parts of Estonia made a long journey to the border town of Narva.

In addition to the 800 runners and walkers on the streets of Narva, more than 400 participants took part in the event virtually.

24-year-old Deniss Šalkauskas, elected deputy mayor of Kohtla-Järve this week, was the fastest in the 10km run, beating his closest competitors by more than three minutes. Šalkauskas said that he will dedicate his victory to the students of his school Jõhvi Kessklinna, who are sad because he had to leave his job as a physical education teacher at the school to take up the position of deputy mayor.

Hillevi Velba, a physical education teacher at Jõhvi primary school, was the fastest among the women on the 10km course and said she enjoys these winter races. Although at one point he narrowly escaped falling and was grateful to a male runner who caught him.
