“The Turkish Football Federation has decided that matches of all leagues will be postponed indefinitely. The club involved in the incident, its president, directors and all those responsible for the attack on Umut Meler will receive the harshest punishment possible!” , the Turkish Football Federation announced on social media.

Meler was later taken to hospital for treatment in bed, where Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan also expressed his support by telephone.

“Sport means peace and brotherhood and there is no place for violence there. We will never allow violence on the Turkish sports field,” Erdogan tweeted.

According to Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya, an arrest warrant has been issued against the president of Ankaragücü and two people have already been arrested by the authorities.

Ankaragücü is in 11th place in the table with 18 points, Rizespor is in eighth place with 22 points.
