Vootele Ruusmaa’s new poetry collection keeps the memory of the place alive through everyday poetry

The little muse Säsi alternately eats a salad, colors a coloring book and then sings in a bright voice “he is not here, he is not there, he is nowhere on earth” – the latter is very symbolic. Ruusmaa’s new collection of poems is entitled «Change of Place», and the same mental and physical transition, the change of place, brings with it the same feeling as the song “it’s not here, it’s not there, it’s nowhere” other part.”

The tone of the poetry collection is brighter than that of Ruusmaa’s previous work, as if she had gone through purgatory. “I like to think that both works, both the previous “Purgatorio” and “Cambiamento di Luogo” are connected by rites of passage. In the case of «Purgatorio», what involves the abandonment of the earthly world and lateral observation, you actually find yourself in a liminal state. Researching death cultures, for example, it was interesting for me to realize that if a coffin is carried among people to the grave, then the person is in a certain sense between two worlds, the same aspect applies to waiting for birth – the person is here, but not yet,” says Ruusmaa.
