This year’s best Tallinn athletes and team were revealed during the festive recognition ceremony held in the Estonia Concert Hall on Wednesday evening. The title of best female athlete went to swimmer Eneli Jefimova, the title of best male athlete went to athlete Janek Úiglane, the title of best young athlete also went to Eneli Jefimova, the title of best paraathlete went to swimmer Keira Rattur and the best team was declared the BC Kalev/Cramo basketball team. Tallinn Volleyball Club was chosen as the best youth sports club in Tallinn.

Mayor Mihhail Kõlvart highlighted that Tallinn, which holds the title of European Capital of Sports in 2025, is proud of its outstanding athletes who have achieved impressive results in both the European and World Championships. “Sport inspires society as a whole and unites communities. Athletes who have won medals and achieved high positions in international title competitions are excellent role models for our young people. I thank all the winners and their coaches for their efforts and wish them continued success in their sporting journey.”

Eneli Jefimova, who was awarded the title of Tallinn 2023 Female and Young Athlete, won a gold medal in the 100m breaststroke and a silver medal in the 50m breaststroke at the European Championships, placed 6th in the 100m breaststroke and 8th in the 50 breaststroke rankings at the World Championships. Jefimova is the world junior champion in the 50 meter breaststroke, she won two gold medals (50 meter and 100 meter breaststroke) at the European Junior Championships. Eneli Jefimova trains with Henry Heina.

Male Athlete of the Year Janek Õiglane placed 6th in the track and field rankings at the World Championships and 9th at the European Indoor Championships. His coach is James Thomas.

Keira Rattur, who received the title of paraathlete of the year, won three gold medals in the 50, 100 and 200 meter breaststroke at the European Championships of DS athletes. At the Virtus World Games she won two bronze medals: 50 and 200 breaststroke, and 4th place in the 100 breaststroke. Her coaches are Jan Joonas Viirpuu and Brenda Tilk.

The title of best team of the year went to the BC Kalev/Cramo basketball team, which this year became Estonian champions and winners of the Estonian Cup and reached the semi-finals of the FIBA ​​European Cup. The team coach is Heiko Rannula.

Tallinn Volleyball Club was chosen as the best youth sports club in Tallinn, where 1,227 amateurs train under the guidance of 33 coaches. Teams are represented in all youth age groups. Founded in 2000, the club has grown to become the biggest and best volleyball club in the capital, being the most successful in both Estonia and the Baltics. The club is a good partner of Tallinn in organizing various campaigns and in effective cooperation with the Tallinn Sports School, whose list includes five successful sports-oriented teams, aiming to show the best results in the Estonian championships and in cup competitions. Tallinn has been rewarding the best athletes and sports teams since 1994, and this year the recognition event was held for the thirtieth time. All citizens of the city had the opportunity to participate in the selection of the best athlete and the best team of 2023 through Internet voting.
