“Who killed Otto Müller?” screenwriter: life is never black and white | TV/Radio

In the program “R2 morning!” they were visiting the detective series “Who Killed Otto Müller?” actress Evelin Voigemast and screenwriter Birk Rohelend. Rohelend said he was attracted to the psychological level of the crime genre, e.g. by why someone does something.

Rohelend said there’s probably no krimka he hasn’t seen. For the character of Otto Müller, however, he based himself on his father. “He’s also the kind of old-school man who believed he knew what was right, while everyone else was wrong. It was quite devastating to grow up under the stick of such a law,” Rohelend said.

Rohelend was very satisfied with Jaan Rekkor’s performance as Otto Müller. “Jaan himself is really bright and sweet and warm,” Voigemast said. “But when you look at the screen, he gets really scary,” Rohelend added.

Green Flight took a long time to write the series and align all the different points of view. “I still tend to go on for years. If someone told me to go on the air the day after tomorrow and make a great story, I would say no. In general, this big planning is constantly going on in my head, and now I’m planning at home too “said the screenwriter.

As far as possible, the work process was pleasant. “In most cases, if there’s a more complex character, the more he doesn’t have the most positive qualities, the more interesting he is to play.” According to Masti, on the surface, the character she plays is a bitter woman, tired of marriage, a woman who spends a lot of money on alcohol, but as the series reveals, the real picture is bigger.

Green Flight prefers the more psychological side of crime stories. “This exact technique doesn’t appeal to me as much as the reasons behind it. Life is never black and white, and for something to happen, to finally establish the real truth, can be completely impossible. I think it’s very interesting ,” Rohelend said.
