The next song and dance festival in summer 2025 will be titled “Iseoma”. The creators of the singing party were inspired by our rich creations in dialect, while the dancing party invites people to a large family reunion. Several famous musicians perform in the role of composers at the song festival.
The Estonian Song and Dance Party Foundation today for the first time presented the basic ideas of the upcoming general song and dance party “Iseoma” and announced the visual aspect of the grand party.
Marko Kekišev, the author of the project, admitted that it was necessary to get used to the term “own” before a clear form and distinctive sign emerged.
“For me this design idea was born because the key words “differences united” came to mind,” explained Marko Kekišev, the creator of the visual identity of the singing and dancing party. “In other words, there are individual elements that form a whole.”
The artist used forest and field plants as elements. The bright color range arises from the natural views of Estonia on the one hand, but also from the bright colors of the striped skirts on the other.
The repertoire of the singing festival is based on dialect texts from all regions of Estonia, which recognize the power and strength of singing.
“After conducting Mart Saare’s “Noore veljo, veeritäge” at the jubilee song festival, of which I understood nothing of the lyrics, after conducting this song I realized that we have a lot of choral music in which dialect is used”, said Heli Jürgenson, artistic director of the song festival. “It’s very exciting, beautiful, new and worth exploring.”
At the song festival you will also hear new compositions from composers
“There will be a completely new song for each genre,” Jürgenson added. “Some acquaintances, such as Kadri Voorand, Rasmus Puur and Riivo Jõgi, have already become familiar with some songs in some parties, but the debut composer of the party Liisi Koikson or Ardo Ran Varres, Karin Tuul and Valter Soosalu, the beautiful song of the male choir, so several familiar musicians will be present at this song festival in the role of composers.”
This time, the dance party brings together dance steps, practices and customs from different places in Estonia.
“We put this party together like a patchwork quilt,” said Helena-Mariana Reimann, dance party director. “We are different, the country is small, but different places have different practices, customs, dances, musical instruments and dialects. Everyone comes from a different corner of Estonia. Since we have created types of regions, you can come with a piece of the your dance party in your pocket, which means we will celebrate in Tallinn.”
At the folk music festival, which traditionally takes place in Freedom Square, this time several new types of instruments will also be performed.
“We have several types of our own, in addition to karmoškas, we also have mandolins, it’s the first time we have giant candles at the party,” said Helin Pihlap, general director of the folk music festival. “Moreover, there is also an opening and closing number, which the folk music festival did not have, but the song and dance festival did, and there all the musicians are together and the audience can also participate.”
From today the website of the singing party is open and group leaders can start ordering the study material for the singing and dancing party. Until the end of January, foreign groups can still register for the party.
The general song and dance festival “Iseoma” will take place from 3 to 6 July 2025 in Tallinn.
