Curator of the exhibition “Out of Norm”: This is a very interesting movement in Estonian painting art

The exhibition “Out of the norm” at Kadriorg Gallery features works that explore and expand the boundaries of painting. The exhibition brings together three painters: Angela Soobi, Alar Tuule and Edgar Tedresaare.

According to curator Tiiu Rebas, the artists participating in the exhibition are united by going beyond the classical norms of painting, experimenting with boundaries and multidimensionality. The exhibition presents sensitive, poetic and socially sensitive works. The artists’ works are spread over the four floors of the gallery, while in the atrium there is a pictorial installation divided into two parts.

“They have become three-dimensional, multilayered, they no longer use just the canvas, they use different materials. They relate to the space, to the environment in which they find themselves, and in a certain sense they make the viewer the author. These are works that give many ideas of reflection,” described Rebane .

“They lost much of their attractiveness and decorativeness, they became more abstract, gaining depth. This is a very interesting movement in Estonian painting now,” the curator said.
