Estonian children living in Belgium have published a book of Christmas nursery rhymes Estonia

This year, Estonian children living in Belgium have published their own book of Christmas nursery rhymes. The poems are both about a black cat cutting down Christmas trees and about a snowball wanting to sit in a warm armchair.

This year Estonian children in Belgium organized a slightly different Christmas party. Namely, a book of Christmas nursery rhymes was jointly published, in which the verses are also decorated with their drawings. The authors include both three-year-olds and high school students.

“There are 75 poems and over 20 illustrations in the poetry collection. There were definitely authors who needed a little encouragement and support from a teacher or parent. And there were definitely many who wanted to do it themselves alone. The youngest authors are three years old, but the oldest are final year high school students,” said Kairit Kolsar, headmaster of the Estonian school in Belgium.

In order to publish the book on time, the children had to finish their poems before the autumn school holidays.

“This is how our students here had to tune into the Christmas wave even before the autumn break. When it is warm here and the leaves on the trees are still green. But they managed this very well. And this is how our collection of poems, the face of time and the face of children, and the colorful autumn-winter of Belgium came out,” Kolsar said.

Three children of the Treufelt family made particularly positive contributions to the book in the form of poems and drawings.

“My poem is about a scarf that is sad because the child doesn’t like it because it stings,” Stella said. “I wrote a poem about a black cat celebrating Christmas Eve. I also wrote a poem about a black cat knocking over a fir tree in the morning. I got this idea because I saw in videos how cats often knock over fir trees, “Described Emili.

“I created a snowball that wanted to enter a room and feel comfortable there,” Ralf said. In Ralf’s poem, Snowball wants to drink a pina colada in an armchair, but instead has to relax outside.
