Former Speaker of the US House of Representatives McCarthy resigns | foreign country

Republican Kevin McCarthy, who served as speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives from January to October, will leave his post at the end of December.

The California Republican narrowly lost a confidence vote in early October, when eight Republicans joined Democrats in voting to censure him. It was the first time in the history of the United States that a vote of no confidence in the President was passed in the House of Representatives.

McCarthy announced in an article published Wednesday in the Wall Street Journal that he will not seek another term. Furthermore, the former president will leave his position as a deputy at the beginning of December. His mandate was supposed to end only after a year, in January 2025, Politico reports.

McCarthy’s departure also means there will be a runoff election in his California district early next year.

The former speaker vowed that he would continue working to recruit America’s “best and brightest minds” for the Republican nomination.

The official reason for leaving is the desire to “serve America in a new way”.

On Tuesday, North Carolina Rep. Patrick McHenry, who served as interim speaker for about a month after McCarthy’s impeachment, announced his withdrawal from running for next term.
