The music for the song was created by Merilin in collaboration with Latvian producer Roberts Memmēns, with whom the drum & bass background was tested. From there, Estonian melody and words came to Meriin quite easily. The singer began to think of the word “Tallinn” because she associated so many emotions with it… Merilin is also struck by the chaotic sound and slightly melancholic tone of this song.
Merilin grew up in a small town, but things changed radically already at the beginning of high school, when she took part in a superstar’s show: “I realized that my house in Kuressaare is too small for me and I need to realize my dreams elsewhere. So I moved to Tallinn, where work and new friends awaited me. At such a young age, the journey was not easy. Everything was new and exciting, but at the same time so foreign. It was as if I had to become adult from one day to the next so that wonderful collaborations in the field of music could happen to me. Looking back, I’m proud that I didn’t forget where I really came from and that I didn’t hide my naivety, I was just learning about myself, but the will was great .”
While quietly building her career, Merilin realized that life in the new city was not as good as she had hoped: “I was constantly sitting among my things, I realized that I had left my childhood home, all my dear, I went through my first heartbreak and I was alone. Suddenly it seemed like maybe I wasn’t welcome in the big city, but deep down I knew that wasn’t the case and I stayed. Today I can remember those times forever, because I have a new song “Tallinn” in my repertoire
The visual side of the music video also matches Merilin’s emotions and the message of the song – a little confusing and chaotic, because this is exactly the message of the song “Tallinn”. Director Bertan Can and producer Rasmus Valdmann made a location video in Tallinn.
