Russia will increase the size of its armed forces by 15%.

According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, this is due to growing threats to the country.

“The increase in personnel of the armed forces is due to the increase in threats to our country related to the conduct of a special military operation and the continued expansion of NATO,” the Ministry of Defense said in a statement.

“Under current conditions, further increasing the combat composition and number of armed forces is an adequate response to the aggressive activities of the NATO bloc,” the Ministry said.

According to Putin’s decree of November 29, the maximum size of the Russian Armed Forces was increased by 170 thousand soldiers to 1.32 million.

The Ministry noted that no additional mobilization is planned and there are no plans to significantly increase citizens’ call up for military service.

“The increase in military personnel of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation will occur gradually at the expense of citizens who express the desire to perform service on the basis of the contract,” the Ministry of Defense added.
