Rémy Martin and Eesti Kontserd’s festive New Year’s concert was inspired by the fantastic France, the wonderful ambience of Paris and the captivating atmosphere there.
“We are very happy that the conductor Kaspar Mänd prepared an enchanting program in French, in which the beloved soprano Mirjam Mesaku was accompanied by the soloist Carolina Eyck with an exciting and rather unusual electronic musical instrument, the theremin. Paris is a city where the new and the old go hand in hand, and this is how we started the new year with a very versatile program in the light of the familiar chandeliers of the Estonia concert hall,” said Maarit Kangron, chief producer of Eesti Kontserd.
In the brilliant New Year’s concert, soprano Mirjam Mesaku performed Claude Debussy’s symphonic prelude “Faun’s Afternoon”, Hector Berlioz’s “Unknown Island” from the song cycle “Summer Nights”, op.7, Henri Duparc’s “Ecstasy” and “Juliet Waltz” by Charles Gounod. ” from the opera “Romeo and Juliet”. The beautiful pieces were followed by Maurice Ravel’s “Noble and Sentimental Waltzes”.
With a solo by theremin player Carolina Eyck, the audience was delighted by Régis Campo’s “Pulsing Dance Floor” for theremin and orchestra. George Gershwin’s tone poem “An American in Paris” offered many emotions. Jacques Ibert’s “Restaurant Bois de Boulogne” from the symphonic suite “Paris” gave a memorable final note to the fascinating French concert.
“The New Year’s concert opens the year of cultural richness that has begun with dignity and in grand style. The concert is named after the cognac house Rémy Martin, founded 300 years ago.
