The exhibition “Voyage” by Leon Höllhumer Arte was inaugurated in the EKA gallery

This year’s first exhibition of the EKA gallery “Voyage” presents the works of Viennese artist Leon Höllhumer, where film, sculpture, action art and photography intertwine.

EKA’s new gallerist Kaisa Maasik said that she will initially implement the ideas of her predecessor Pire Sova, but that in the future the gallery’s main focus will be to present the work of her house, students and former students. Furthermore, it is expected to attract internationally recognized artists from abroad from time to time, like this time.

“Leon has a really exciting way of directing his films,” said EKA gallerist Kaisa Maasik. “He often uses materials from everyday life, uses them as props in his films, but also in the space where we gathered, so that this exhibition itself is like a large stage where activities can take place.”

“Different characters and social aspects are represented in my work,” said artist Leon Höllhumer. “Here we see the second round of the denim coffin, and in this sarga I made it performance‘me that we see on the screen. A person swam there, ate and drank, and arranged a funeral in his own way. This motif has haunted me for a long time and seemed to fit well with the current moment. The current war made me think that death could be an important element in Estonia too, and these works would fit well here.”

Another performance film focuses on the experiment of how the coexistence of a human, a robot and a natural being could work or end. The artist states that the main message of his works is the desire to coexist amicably with each other, focusing less on consumption and capitalism.

The exhibition is open until February 14th.
