Music publication Pitchfork moves to GQ magazine and lays off staff | Music

The online publication Pitchfork, which has been part of the media company Condé Nast since 2015, is merging with the men’s lifestyle magazine GQ. Several Pitchfork employees were also fired in light of the new decision.

In light of the new decision, Puja Patel, the publication’s editor-in-chief, also resigned, Variety reported. Condé Nast representatives did not reveal exactly how many employees will be laid off by Pitchfork.

Anna Wintour, Chief Content Officer at Condé Nast, sent a note to Pitchfork staff stating that the decision was made after evaluating the publication’s performance and that they believe this is the best path forward for the Pitchfork brand.

Wintour also pointed out that Pitchfork and GQ have unique and valuable approaches to music. “We are excited to see what opportunities their collaboration will bring.”

Roger Lynch, CEO of Condé Nast, announced last November plans to lay off nearly 300 employees to cut costs. Pitchfork had about 30 employees so far.

Founded as a music blog, Pitchfork has been around since 1996 and provides daily news and reviews about music and pop culture.
