Last week it was announced that disturbances had occurred in Finnish airspace. The disturbances in the satellite positioning network, or GPS system, were detected by a map from the gpsjam website, which uses data from public sources.
Last week there were riots in the Baltic Sea. Since then, disturbances in the Baltic Sea have decreased, but new disturbances are currently being recorded on the Finnish mainland, the Gulf of Finland and Estonia, Iltalehti reports.
According to the Gpsjam website, GPS network disturbances occurred for the first time over Finland on December 29 in a small area south of Lappeenranta. The next day, the area was slightly larger and was located between Lappeenranta and Parikkala.
In the last 24 hours the unrest has spread to a wider area in Finland. There is also unrest in the Baltic states. John Wiseman, the founder of the website Gpsjam, commented on the issue on social media today.
In the last 24 hours new disturbances over Finland. This is an unprecedented event, given the size of the area and the number of aircraft affected. Recently in the Baltics it was exciting…, continues.
Wiseman writes that he believes the riots were caused by deliberate interference or military exercises.
It is widely believed that something similar has its roots in Russia, Wiseman writes.
Wiseman adds that the problem is not critical to the safety of the plane. But this is annoying and removes a layer of protection.
It probably won’t have any effect on people on the ground because the jammer’s signal is weaker on the ground than in the air.
Finnair confirmed to Helsingin Sanomat last week that it had made observations of GPS interference in the southern tip of Sweden, the southern Baltic Sea and Poland.
Furthermore, there is on social media pointed out that 17-19. In December, there was a widespread GPS signal outage in the Baltic countries, including Estonia. It may have been in use 3 distractions.
New GPS interference over Finland in the last 24 hours. Unprecedented in terms of the number of aircraft hit and the size of the affected region. The Baltic has certainly been exciting lately…

Baltic Jam 23: Parts viewed.
Aircraft reporting NIC 1-6 (bad positioning) from 17 to 29 December over the Baltics, grouped in 33 km hexes and colored according to poor positioning.
What can we learn? The blocked areas do not completely overlap in time, indicating different disturbed/target areas. pic.twitter.com/dB5TLUzLJS

Another way to view the same data, hexes colored based on the number of planes hit during the entire period. Ideally it should be the interested/not interested ratio. But it is so
