Maria Zakharova, Sergey Tsekov, Milos Zeman, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation (Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation), Federation Council of the Russian Federation, Alexey Pushkov, Franz Klintsevich, Czech Republic, Prague, Ivan Konev

MOSCOW, Jun 28 – RIA News. Politicians and diplomats commented on the words of the head of the Prague 6 district, Ondrzej Kolář, who stated that the Russian embassy was to blame for the demolition of the monument to Marshal Ivan Konev. They called the official’s statement dirty fuss and an inept attempt to make excuses for their actions.

Key statements are in the material of RIA Novosti.

“The top of hypocrisy and cynicism”

As Senator Alexei Pushkov tweeted, dismantling the statue of the Soviet commander “will be an eternal shame” on the authorities of the Prague region.

“In this, they were likened to vandals who demolish and desecrate monuments in the United States,” he said.

Czech Foreign Ministry agreed to discuss with Russia the fate of the monument to Konev

Pushkov called the “slurred” attempt of the Collage to shift responsibility for the demolition of the monument to Moscow on top of hypocrisy and cynicism.

“No, bear your sin on yourself,” the post says.

“Funny for the Czechs themselves”

Commenting on the statement of the Czech official, a member of the Federation Council Committee on Defense and Security Franz Klintsevich noted that the authorities in Prague-6 are trying to comply with the global trend in the fight against the Soviet legacy. At the same time, the headman’s words about the “fault” of the Russian side are a manifestation of stupidity that looks ridiculous in the eyes of the Czech population, he said.

Klintsevich emphasized that there will come a time when all the demolished monuments to the Czech leadership will have to be restored – at their own expense.

“So will people, time and human conscience demand,” he said “360”.

The parliamentarian noted that the “monumental evidence” of the great struggle of the Soviet people against fascism cannot be hidden, and all the monuments cannot be demolished.

“Trying to make excuses”

According to a member of the Federation Council committee on international affairs, Sergei Tsekov, Kolarge’s words are an attempt to justify the demolition of the pedestal, which was condemned both in Russia and in the Czech Republic.
In an interview with RT, he said that the dismantling of historical monuments is an unworthy affair that speaks of disrespect for the historical past. According to Tsekov, people engaged in such activities themselves “do not deserve respect.”

“Dirty fuss”

In turn, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, told RIA Novosti that the location of the statue in the district was regulated by legal acts.

The diplomat added that the “dirty fuss” with the demolition of the monument has nothing to do with law.

Collage Statement

Earlier, Kolarge said that Prague had never “sought” the demolition of the monument to Marshal Konev, and that the Russian embassy was to blame for its dismantling, who refused to take it to the territory of the diplomatic mission.

In April, the leadership of the district of Prague-6 demolished a monument to Ivan Konev, who liberated the city from Nazi invaders in May 1945. As the headman reported, the statue should be placed in the Museum of the 20th Century in memory created by the city authorities.

Moscow called the actions of Prague outrageous and cynical. The Russian authorities emphasized that they would prefer to see the monument restored on the territory of the country or in the Czech Republic. The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case on publicly defiling the symbols of military glory. The dismantling of the monument was criticized by the President of the Republic Milos Zeman.

Czech Foreign Ministry decided to strengthen the security of diplomatic mission staff in Moscow

The Czech Foreign Ministry is going to send security officers to Moscow to protect its diplomats. This decision was made against the backdrop of the dismantling of the monument to Soviet Marshal Ivan Konev in Prague.

“We plan to strengthen security measures for diplomats and will send security officers directly from our Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the Czech embassy in Moscow,” the head of the diplomatic department Tomas Petrzycek said in an interview with RBC.

Earlier, the Czech Foreign Ministry sent a note to Russian colleagues over an action near the building of the Czech embassy in Moscow on April 5, for which activists of the Other Russia movement took responsibility. On April 16, participants in Other Russia held a rally using smoke bombs at the Czech consulate in St. Petersburg, which is why the republic’s Foreign Ministry also expressed concern and turned to the Russian diplomatic department.

During both rallies, demonstrators protested against the decision of the municipal authorities of Prague.

There, by their decision, a monument to Marshal Ivan Konev was dismantled. It was installed in 1980, on the 35th anniversary of the liberation of the city by the troops of the 1st Ukrainian Front of the Red Army under the command of the marshal.

“The sculpture will be moved,” said Ondrej рамramek, spokesman for the Prague-6 district. “The municipality’s decree of September 12 last year is being implemented.”

About the consequences – in the publication “Kommersant” “Soviet Marshal and a suitcase with poison.”

.

Czech Foreign Ministry invited Russia to discuss disagreements in relations

In turn, representatives of the opposition parties suggested that the deputies discuss the interaction of Moscow and Prague, as well as condemn the attempts of “intervention” of Russia in the internal affairs of the Czech Republic. According to the leader of the TOR 09 party, Marketa Pekarova-Adamova, the government has not yet expressed its opinion on the “Russian diplomatic and intelligence aggression,” so parliament should take the lead. However, most deputies voted against this proposal.

.

The initiator of the demolition of the monument to Konev complained about Russia to the European Commission

The authorities of the Prague-6 district on April 3 dismantled the monument to Konev. According to Kolarge, the monument will be placed in the Museum of the 20th Century in memory created by the city authorities. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called these actions “outrageous and cynical.” The Kremlin said that Moscow would prefer to see the monument to Konev restored on Czech or Russian soil. The IC opened a criminal case on the desecration of the symbols of Russia’s military glory, committed publicly, Russian investigators intend to bring to justice the participants in the demolition of the monument.
