Tesla suspends production in Germany due to the crisis in the Middle East

The reason is supply problems due to the conflict in the Red Sea, where the Iranian-backed Houthis have attacked merchant ships in recent months. Therefore, many of the world’s large logistics companies have reorganized the maritime transportation of goods in such a way that, instead of the Red Sea, ships move from Asia to Europe and vice versa around the Cape of Good Hope, the southern tip of the Africa. However, this significantly increases transportation times and is more expensive.

Yesterday the United States and Great Britain launched counterattacks from the air and sea. “These targeted attacks send a clear message that the United States and our partners will not tolerate attacks on our personnel or allow hostile actors to threaten freedom of navigation,” US President Joe Biden said.

However, the conflict has caused supply disruptions, which is why Tesla is temporarily suspending work at its German factory. The factory overall employs more than 11,000 people who produce approximately 250,000 cars per year. However, individual employees will remain employed during this period. Swedish furniture maker IKEA and Chinese car maker Geely also warned of possible supply disruptions.
