Three billion people cannot afford a healthy diet | Future Planet

A Bangladeshi family to whom successive floods have left little rice to put in their mouths. A teenager from the Central African Republic who only finds sorghum porridge in the camp for displaced people where she has taken refuge from the war. Some university roommates in Argentina whose scholarships do not give them more than to eat pasta and fried tomato almost every day of the week. Or an unemployed couple from Spain who depend on what they receive at the Food Bank in their neighborhood. They have very different origins and problems, but something unites them: they cannot afford a minimally healthy diet. There are three billion people, almost half of the world’s population, according to the most conservative estimates included in the report. The state of food security and nutrition, published annually by a group of the most expert UN agencies on the subject. In Africa and South Asia, 57% of the population cannot access this diet. In countries with permanent crises, 86% are deprived of it.

A minimally healthy diet is one that contains at least 2,300 calories and 69 grams of protein per person per day, in addition to the necessary micronutrients. Its cost, today, exceeds the international extreme poverty line, established at 1.9 dollars per person per day, making it unaffordable for the poorest. Eating healthy and well is on average five times more expensive than following a diet that simply meets energy needs through a starchy staple, like the Bangladeshi family’s rice or the Argentine students’ kilos of pasta. “Every time we are going to see more families that with their wages and income will not be able to achieve a healthy diet,” warns Víctor Aguayo, director of nutrition of the UN Fund for Children (Unicef), participant in this report.

All these people in difficulty to eat well or do it, without more, go on to swell the statistics of hungry. Last year it was reported that there were 821 million in the world. This year there are 690 million, but they are more than the previous one. How is it possible? Because the figure is cheating. What has happened now is that for this 2020 edition the data from 13 countries have been updated and, therefore, the entire series for the last 15 years. Among these is China, which has a fifth of the world’s population and whose information was very out of date. The good news is for the Chinese: they have fewer hungry people than previously thought. The bad news is for the rest of the world.

In 2018, with the complete series updated, there were not 821 million hungry, but 678 million. Given that this year there are 690 million hungry people, we have worsened: 10 million more hungry in one year and 60 million more in the last five years. “What matters is what the new calculation tells us: that the situation continues to get worse”, warns during a telephone conversation Máximo Torero, chief economist of the UN organization for food and agriculture (FAO), which is another of the agencies signing this work.

It was in 2014 the last time the world saw a reduction in hunger. Now, those ambitious goals embodied in the Sustainable Development Goals To guarantee access to nutritious and sufficient food for all and to end hunger in 2030 are practically ruled out and, what is more, to continue with this trend, within a decade we will have neither zero nor 600 million hungry, but 840 million. “In 2005 we reached 895 million hungry people and we improved until 2014; now we would be going back to the nineties, when those food crises happened,” warns the FAO expert. In addition, the number of people affected by severe food insecurity, —who do not know if they will be able to eat the next day the minimum to survive— is 750 million, one in ten.

And where are those people? Especially in Asia, with 381 million inhabitants in this situation. It is followed by Africa, with 250 million, and Latin America, with 48 million. “If we continue this trend, in 2030 Africa will have the highest proportion of hungry people: 51.5%,” warns Torero.

The solution: change the consumption model

It is not about imposing the same diet on all humanity; the choice depends on the country and the nutritional status of each individual. “What we need is a diversity of foods that allows us to obtain all the micronutrients that are required. There are countries like Uganda that require consuming more meat to reach the necessary protein level, and there are others like the United States, which require the opposite: consume less. meat “, says Máximo Torero, FAO chief economist. “And it is important to say that a healthy diet is not necessarily vegetarian or vegan, those diets are not healthy by definition because they lack the vitamin B-12 component. The Mediterranean diet is healthy, the one based on fish can be too” , he warns.

To increase the affordability of healthy diets, the cost of nutritious food must be lowered, which requires interventions throughout the entire food supply chain to reduce losses and improve efficiency. A rebalancing of agricultural policies and incentives towards more nutrition-sensitive investment is also recommended. “Nowadays, most agricultural subsidies go to cereals: corn, soybeans … When they should go to high-value products to diversify the diet,” exemplifies the FAO expert.

“We should facilitate trade not only global but also interregional so that countries can obtain a greater variety of diets. Social programs, even, should be oriented towards the consumption of healthy diets. There are many measures that can be done quickly and could help to improve this situation quickly. “

Despite the fact that the data regarding child malnutrition is reduced, in Unicef the fact that two out of three children children under five in low- and middle-income countries are receiving diets that do not meet their nutritional needs. “They may meet their energy needs, that is, they do not put the child at immediate risk of death, they may help them grow and develop more or less well, they are not under the threshold of malnutrition or above the threshold of they are overweight, but they may have deficiencies in vitamins, iron, zinc … These boys and girls are not going to develop their potential for physical growth and intellectual development, “says Aguayo.

If the world population ate a healthy diet, 97% of the costs derived from non-communicable diseases could be saved

The inadequate diets in children is leading to an increase in overweight and obesity in the child population, an epidemic that affects 40 million children in the world. “We are very concerned that when the public thinks of an unhealthy diet, they usually think of children who grow little, are short or are very thin, but we increasingly see how in low and middle income countries, and among the most high-income poor, such as Spain or the United States, that the vast majority of overweight children are so because of a very low-quality diet that even gives them more energy than they need to grow, but does not provide them with the necessary nutrients for a healthy life. adequate growth and development “, indicates the director of nutrition of Unicef. In Spain, in fact, 35% of children between the ages of eight and 16 are overweight.

To this worrying scenario we must add the novelty of 2020: the covid-19 pandemic, which worsens the forecasts because it adds between 83 and 136 million hungry due to problems of access to food due to the subsequent economic recession. “When the GDP falls, a lot of unemployment is generated, and that causes people to not be able to buy food,” describes Torero. Unicef estimates an increase of about six to seven million children with malnutrition due to the pandemic, according to Aguayo, unless “clear and determined” policies are applied to prevent it.

The hidden costs of eating poorly

The only possibility of reversing the numbers and reaching the goal set for 2030 is to carry out a transformation of the food system without it having an impact on production costs. The key is not how much we eat, rather what we eat. “We need to eliminate all forms of malnutrition, and that includes overweight and obesity, as well as malnutrition, delayed development … For that it is central to move to the consumption of healthy diets,” illustrates Torero. “The ones we consume today seek above all to achieve the necessary energy content and are based mostly on cereals, but they are not the ones that will lead us to eliminate all forms of malnutrition and will lead us to more non-communicable diseases and higher emissions. greenhouse effect “.

For the first time, this report calculates what it calls “hidden costs” of not eating a healthy diet. Torero explains it like this: “There are several ways to end hunger. The first, I give more food to everyone and I don’t worry about the quality. The second: I worry about the quality of the diet and I try to give everyone access The third is a bit more complicated: not only do I give you a healthier diet, I also give you the most sustainable one. The higher you go up the ladder, the more expensive that diet is, but what we have found is that the healthiest diet has additional benefits that we had not quantified until now. “

There are two hidden costs: on the one hand, we spend 1.1 billion euros on treating non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and other cardiovascular problems caused by poor diet. Of this millionaire amount, humanity could save 97%. On the other hand, we also dedicate 1.2 trillion euros in costs derived from greenhouse emissions, of which we could save between 41% and 74%.

Persona 4’s success on Steam opens the door to more ports on PC and other platforms

Sonic’s parents are very happy about the sales of the Atlus JRPG in the Valve store.

Without a doubt, one of the great news in recent months was the arrival of Persona 4 Golden a Steam. The tremendous support of the players for the title has not gone unnoticed for SEGA, which has confirmed that will promote launches of games that have already been released in the past, both for PC and for other platforms.

As we say, the launch was an absolute success and became the JRPG with the most simultaneous players in the history of Steam. Not only that, but exceeded half a million copies sold in the first month. PC users had eager to experiment the role of the Persona saga, a cult franchise for any RPG lover.

We will continue to promote ports of previously released titles to Steam and new platformsSEGASEGA, in a question and answer session on the occasion of the report of the first quarter of the fiscal year, commented the following: “due to the good reviews of the game (Persona 4 Golden) and its low price, the sales were much stronger than expected”. After this, the great news: “we will continue actively promoting ports of titles previously released to Steam and new platforms ”.

And this opens up a range of possibilities as wide as it is exciting. They will arrive Persona 5 Royal and Person 5 Scramble to PC? Will we see the Recent Shin Megami Tensei Announcements on other platforms in the future? Of course, the success of Persona 4 Golden has been a wake up call for SEGA and Atlus, and it may be the beginning of many joys for the fans.

More about: Person, Persona 4 Golden, Atlus, SEGA, Steam and Shin Megami Tensei.

.

SEGA: Persona 4 Golden is a success on PC, the studio wants to make other ports

For very long years, SEGA reserved its games for consoles, but For a little while now, the Japanese studio has been eyeing the PC side, with first a very well received portage of Valkyria Chronicles, then the outputs of Bayonetta, Vanquish or quite recently Persona 4 Golden. The role-playing game was launched last June at a knockdown on Steam (it is even sold for € 15.99 at Gamesplanet), it didn’t take much for him to climb to the top of sales, which surprised SEGA.

Haruki Satomi, President and Chief Financial Officer of SEGA, indeed expressed its desire to release other games, not necessarily recent, on Steam in the future.

We remastered Persona 4 Golden, a game that was sold on PlayStation Vita, and launched it for sale on Steam during the fiscal year. Thanks to the positive reviews and the low price, sales were more than expected. We will continue to actively port old games to Steam and new platforms. We will also be negotiating with the platform managers to release new games in the future, and we plan to sell each title in the most favorable way. One of those measures is preparing for PC releases early on, with cross-platform release in mind.

Games SEGA first on consoles then a few years later on computers, so it will soon be history. But first, the Japanese studio wants to share its previous productions with PC players, even if no name has been released yet. What title of SEGA would you like to see land on computers?

Miguel Herrán: “Money has not made me happy, it has dirtied me as a person” | ICON

Up to the sky It begins as a social drama when Ángel (Miguel Herrán) looks at the skyscrapers of Chamartín from his neighborhood and exclaims: “Surely from there we look like ants.” But it becomes a frenetic thriller action (or what was formerly called a americanada) when Ángel turns to organized crime to get to the top. “His ambition is excessive, he doesn’t conform and he always wants more,” explains the actor. “When he steals five million euros, the option of laundering them and losing half is, in his head, a mediocre life. And he realizes that the sky has no limit ”. The paper house already glorified the rebellion of the poor who rob the rich not to overthrow the system, but to place themselves on top of it, and Miguel Herrán has become famous (14 million people follow on Instagram, the population of a medium-sized country) interpreting ants with elephant pretenses. River in The paper house got into a love robbery, Christian in Elite he went where it was necessary for fame. But what does Miguel feel from up there? Among other things, envy of ants.

“I get money from Instagram, obviously, because you’re an asshole if you don’t take advantage of it. Right now, the prime time television has fewer viewers than Ester Exposito’s Instagram “

The story of its origins is too cinematic to be true and too raw to be invented. “I was the typical kid what. He didn’t want to work, he didn’t want to study. Back then I would go out a lot, I would spend many nights out with colleagues, and on one of those we ran into Dani [Guzmán, director de su debut A cambio de nada]. He offered us the film and I told him that it was made for free, my only motivation was to laugh and hesitate to the architect of There is no one living here at three in the morning. I didn’t know what a casting and he hardly understood the word ‘face-to-face’, he remembers. To the first casting He presented himself “with a peach hit” (“it was a dark room in a basement, I thought they were going to rape us”), the second “high”, the third he did not go and the fourth appeared “in a dubious way.” But since Guzmán did not stop giving him opportunities, Herrán decided to take something seriously for the first time in his life. The happy ending is that he ended up winning a Goya at age 19 (which he thanked Guzmán: “You have given me a life, Daniel”) and signing for the two most famous Spanish series in the world.

Herrán has commented that she would like to tell the life of her mother in a film, because she admires that she never threw in the towel before a son “very bastard, a true son of a bitch” and before a people that rejected her for being a single mother. “If I tell you the things I did before, it would not fit you with the person I am now. She hated life, she hated the world. I had a way of being quite a bitch and at the moment I am afraid to tell it, because I did things that I am not proud of. I would get up, look at myself in the mirror and I didn’t like how he was, or what he did, or how he treated people, or how I treated myself, ”he reveals. This self-destructive character, for which he confesses that he came to think that if he were dead everything would improve, found in the interpretation a motivation to get out of bed in the morning. The self-esteem, however, is still a work in progress: from not wanting to be present, Herrán has gone to not knowing how to be present.

Miguel Herrán wears Prada.

“It is hard for me to be here and now. I am always thinking about what to do next, without enjoying the moment. I do a lot of things throughout the day and I’m not into any. I want to be able to be in this interview without wondering what consequences my answers will have, “he admits,” That’s why I like extreme sports, because in those moments I feel alive. When I am descending a mountain with the bike or the motorcycle I know that if I am not aware of the contact of the wheel with the ground, how I am going to fall or the suspension I am going to get a host. And I do not want to put a host “. That is already a step forward. The other pending issue for Miguel Herrán is managing the vigorexia he suffered in adolescence, when his friends nicknamed him “Conan the Barbarian”, and which still haunts him when he looks in the wrong mirror.

“I have noticed that people think that my life is cock, that I have fucked Ester Expósito and Úrsula Corberó, and that I cannot complain. The money has not made me happy, it has given me more worries”

“Every summer is the talk with my colleagues: how is my body, if I am bigger or more defined. And I always tell them that the sad thing is that they with their belly and their beers are ten times happier with their body than I am, ”he laments. Sometimes you feel like you’ve lost muscle overnight. “It all depends on the head,” he says. And of the light, of course. And of the light! I didn’t want to say it so as not to sound freaky, but I have mirrors in which I am forbidden to look at myself with certain lights because I know I am going to obsess. It is a continuous obsession, because once you start you don’t stop. When I travel by motorcycle I carry a suitcase with weights. And during quarantine I bought myself a TRX, a bench, and more weights. I gained five kilos of muscle, but at the end of the confinement I said ‘fuck it’. I have an obsession, but I’m not an asshole either. There have been times when I have not been able to control it. In The paper house There came a time when if I stooped my monkey would burst. They asked me to stop and I told them it’s okay, but I wouldn’t stop. When they told me that I was older, I replied that it was his perception, ”he confesses.

When the filming of Up to the sky Miguel stopped working out for the first time in a decade. Because his project of being comfortable in his own skin involves getting him to stop caring so much about the approval of others. When last year he published a video on Instagram in which he left crying without saying a word, his fans insisted on rescuing him just as Tokyo rescued him in The paper house. Meanwhile, the media showed a concern that attracted so many clicks as speculations about his emotional state. As if speculation was required. He himself tells it with total peace of mind to anyone who wants to listen to it: “I wanted to show that when nobody sees me I have my problems, I have noticed that people think that my life is cock, that I have fucked Ester Exposito and Úrsula Corberó, and that I cannot complain. Money has not made me happy It has taken away a lot of happiness and has given me more worries than when I didn’t have it. It has made me more ambitious. Money has made me dirty as a person. I do not value it. In the rest I am the same or worse ”, he clarifies.

Actor Miguel Herrán, like the devil, wears Prada.

Actor Miguel Herrán, like the devil, wears Prada.

Money also allows him to choose projects without pressure – doing things without pressure is what Miguel Herrán needs the most right now – which makes him feel lucky because he has seen how other actors his age worked reluctantly because their families exploited them. “I get money from Instagram, obviously, because you’re an asshole if you don’t take advantage of it,” he declares. “Right now, the prime time television has fewer viewers than Ester Exposito’s Instagram. Netflix gave us two iPhones and two cameras to create content while filming [de Élite]” In one of her stories recent, Herrán recorded a paparazzo That I was chasing him so he would know what it feels like.

This constant exposure is implicit in the public image of all the actors of his generation, although sometimes it gets out of hand like on that occasion when Herrán had to interpret a scene with a partner who gave him the reply, outside of camera, while looking at the mobile. “It is a yoke that we put on, needing the acceptance of the more people the better. As I have had moments of becoming addicted and of waking up badly if I did not have the likes that I wanted to have, one day I took it and said, with all the affection of my heart: ‘Come on and screw it up’. My life is my life and I can’t be trying to please everyone. It’s not my job, I don’t like it, I don’t enjoy it ”. And, of course, one of the few things that Miguel Herrán is clear about is that what he most wants is to enjoy himself.

“I went up behind and touched my bra.” Details of the story about a Perm teacher who was given 9 years for harassing a student

– It is difficult to build forecasts, but I believe in the best. I feel sorry for mom, she is very worried, it has been going on for more than a year, – said “KP» 49-year-old math teacher Valery Syropyatov and, with a sigh, he entered the courtroom.

On Monday in the Ordzhonikidze court Perm the teacher was sentenced under the article “Violent acts of a sexual nature”. The sentence is 9 years and 6 months in a maximum security colony.

“The girl begged the three”

This ugly story happened in March last year in a Perm school. According to the teacher, she looked like this:

– In the seventh grade, where the girl studied, I taught mathematics for the first year. In the first quarter, she deceived me, I believed and put the “troika”. But there must be an educational moment. I told her that now she will hand over all the work in the sequence in which they are studied. And until we get to the control for the third quarter, the final mark at her will not be!

On that day, March 27, several students came to the mathematician to take the “tails”.

“Everyone sat at their desks and did the work, and once again she decided to slip away,” the teacher continues. – I began to ask myself, said that her stomach ached, her head … I insisted: “Decide the control, get your” threefold “and you can step on all four sides. If it’s inconvenient for you to study in the classroom – the children are noisy – let’s go to another office. ” We left, she stood at the table and again began to whine. I sit at the table and tell her: “Go, decide!” The man does not leave, I waved. I am sitting, she is standing – where will i get? Here in the belt on the side with the back of the hand and hit. It turned out cotton. I admitted this, and was removed by the director from teaching in this class. I apologized and believed that the incident had been exhausted.

Soon, the information got into law enforcement. First, criminal proceedings were instituted for Art. Art. 135 of the Criminal Code RF “Depraved actions”, and after six months the investigations were re-qualified as more serious, Art. 132 “Violent acts of a sexual nature.”

At each meeting, teachers supported

To the court – at each hearing in the Valery case Syropyatova – a support group gathered: former graduates, colleagues, parents of students … 17 of them acted as witnesses from the defense. They all said that they could not believe the guilt of their beloved teacher. He does not smoke, does sports, organizes excursions around the Perm Territory and cities for children Of Russiaorganizes competitions in rogain, tourist trips, alloys, fees …

Despite all the kind words spoken to the defendant, the state prosecution requested 13 years of imprisonment for him.

Valery Syropyatov on the day the sentence was announced, we met near the courthouse. He was light, without things. As the teacher himself explained, he believed that the court would figure it out and justify it.

“I’ve already checked in, now I’ll take a little walk, breathe in fresh air, mentally tune in and go,” he explained before entering the courtroom.

Despite the fact that the process was closed, the journalists and the support group were allowed to announce the verdict.

It was impossible to understand what the teacher experienced at that moment when the judge said “nine and a half years in a maximum security colony”, the teacher’s face was hidden under a mask. And the former graduates and colleagues who were present at the announcement somehow immediately went down. Someone could not hold back tears.

– Do you understand the verdict and the procedure for appealing against it?

“Yes, your honor,” the convict answered calmly.

At that moment, three escorts entered the courtroom. Knowing the rules of staying in places of deprivation of liberty — the teacher spent three days in a pre-trial detention center while the investigation was under way — the teacher began to unfasten his belt in order to remove it, took money from his pockets, a cell phone and gave it to a relative. The guards locked handcuffs on his hands, and asked all those present to leave the courtroom.

I closed and he pushed my hands away

– The criminal case was considered in closed court, so we can’t explain the details, you heard the verdict, the evidence that the prosecution presented to the court was enough to plead guilty to a particularly serious crime against the sexual integrity of a minor, therefore the sentence so big – said assistant to the prosecutor of the Ordzhonikidze district of Perm, Dmitry Shishkin. – And that slap, and the version that the defendant himself told everyone about, including in the media, is a way of protection.

As it became known to “Komsomolskaya Pravda” from a source familiar with the materials of the criminal case, one of the evidence presented in court was the correspondence of the seventh grader with his girlfriend in social networks. Late in the evening on the day of math retaking, the schoolgirl wrote to her close friend that she was at school, and the teacher took her to a separate office, put her at her desk, walked up behind and began to touch her bra.

“I sat at the table, he was at the back and was pawing me,” she wrote. – I tried to close my hands, and he pushed his hands and touched me by the chest.

Experts examined the girl for bruises and the only thing found on her body was a small scratch on her finger.

The accusation was also based on the words of the girl, her mother and friend. Investigators also found a video from school surveillance cameras, which shows how one of the schoolgirls told Valery Nikolaevich that she had passed the debt, and he leaned over and began to say in her ear that she was good. This was interpreted later as a kiss.

During the investigation, a forensic medical examination was carried out, the biological traces of the teacher on the things of the victim were not found. The teacher was also tested for a tendency to pedophilia, but the result was negative.
