Amtrak Pacific Surfliner officials are urging soccer fans to secure their travel plans early as the region prepares for an influx of visitors during the World Cup. To manage the anticipated surge in ridership, the rail service has implemented significant operational changes affecting travel throughout the Southern California corridor.
Operational Adjustments and Service Changes
From June 11 through July 19, all passengers riding the Pacific Surfliner must have a reservation. This requirement marks a shift in standard operations to accommodate the high volume of fans traveling to matches.
To assist those returning from games, additional late-night trains will run on June 12, 13, 15, and 25. These services will operate from Los Angeles Union Station, providing northbound travel toward Santa Barbara and southbound service toward San Diego. To support the final weekend of the Los Angeles World Cup 26 Fan Zone, the service will add a stop at the Burbank-Downtown station on July 18, and 19.
Travel Incentives and Connections
In partnership with the Los Angeles Tourism and Convention Board, the rail service is offering a 20% discount on coach and business-class fares for travel to and from Los Angeles through July 15. LOSSAN Rail Corridor Agency Managing Director Jason Jewell stated that the goal is to ensure a quality experience for all fans, whether they are traveling from the Central Coast, Orange County, or San Diego.
Once at Los Angeles Union Station, travelers can utilize Metro services to reach SoFi Stadium. The Union Station Fan Zone, running from June 25 to 28, will host live match screenings and other activities for attendees.
